It is billed by the operating physician who calls in the assistant — not by the assistant, and not alongside Number 61 for the same assistance.

Number 62 does not value the assistance itself, but the calling in: the operating physician's decision to bring in an assistant for an operative service. It is billed by the operating physician, not by the assistant.

The service text names two situations side by side: the operative service under a Belegarzt arrangement, and the ambulatory operation performed by physicians in private practice. Both cases stand in the same sentence, joined by „oder“ — or.

What sets it apart from Number 61 is who bills it and what is billed: Number 61 is the assisting physician's time, Number 62 is the operating physician's calling in of that assistant. For the same assistance, the two numbers do not stand side by side — where Number 62 is billed, the assisting physician cannot bill Number 61 alongside it.

Unlike Number 61, the service text of Number 62 names no restriction excluding physicians called in for an anaesthetic, and no condition about the assistant's entitlement to bill privately. Those conditions stand only at Number 61.

The multiplier for Number 62

Number 62 stands in Abschnitt B, so it falls within the ordinary fee range: from the single rate up to the 3.5-fold rate, with the 2.3-fold rate as the span within which, under § 5 Abs. 2 Satz 4 GOÄ, a fee is as a rule assessed.

For this number, § 5 Abs. 2 Satz 3 GOÄ is the sentence that limits any increase: criteria for assessment already accounted for in the service description are left out of consideration. The duration unit named in the text is part of the service text itself and already reflected in the point count — it does not by itself carry an increase.

Above the 2.3-fold rate, § 12 Abs. 3 GOÄ applies: written, tied to the particular service, comprehensible and traceable for the person liable to pay, and to be explained further on request.
